My friend got yellow light of dead and he does not know how to fix it he doesn't want to pay 150$ but he dosent have repair man for this job does anyone know how to fix

only sony can help you fix it, psy $150 to fix it or $300 brand new one. His choice

there are a lot of good tutorials on youtube but do so at your own risk because a) they do NOT look easy and b) it voids warrenty/sony's willingness to fix even if you pay.

You pretty much pay 169$ + tax(CAN) Even if it does break, its 200 bucks. For another 50, you got yourself a SLIM.

I've had to send in my PS3 twice. The first time was because of YLOD. Second time was because of broken blu-ray drive. The first time I got a refurbished system but Sony just repaired my second one. I dont know how good your friend is with electronics but tell him to watch the videos on how to fix it first. Have him try and if that doesnt work just send it in. I opened up my PS3 the second time it broke but I couldn't fix it. Im pretty sure you cant doing anything with your PS3 after the YLOD but if he can tell him to back everything up and deactivate the system. I dont think you can do those things but ask tell him just in case.

Ok, I have fixed three PS3 systems that have had the "YLOD"...

The easiest way to explain how to fix "YLOD", is this;

1.) Take apart your PS3 (all the way).

2.) Locate the two main processers,(the two biggest chips, under where the fan goes).

3.) Use a heat gun,(not a hair dryer), to "reflow" the processers by warming both chips for about 15-20 seconds each. (*) After you have heated up the processers, DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE THE MOTHERBOARD FOR AT LEAST 15-20 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!(You will break your motherboard, and be SCREWED!)(*)

4.) Use Thermal Compound on the tops of the 2 processers,(enough to spread a thin layer over the entire two chips).

5.) Carefully put your PS3 back together, and Boom...Your good to go!

Just so you know...
60gb, 80gb(v.1), 20gb are the models I've fixed. I don't know the hardware of any newer models.

You must be very careful while trying this! You can, and will fuck up your PS3 forever if you mess up!

It's if you have a heat gun. Many people have tried this and said it has worked so I'd recommend it.

You could just send it in. $169 bucks and a clean HDD is not always good, but its most likely guaranteed to work.

You can buy a new heat gun @ Walmart for $22.00.

The whole reason I fixed the PS3s on my own, was because the warrenty was expired, and I didn't have $170.00 to send them in.

The PS3s were paperweights.......
There was no risk to me if I couldn't fix them, because they didn't work anyways.

If "YLOD" happens to you, and you still have warrenty,(or $170.00 laying around), then I would defintly just send it in.
