First topic message reminder :

This is a really good trick to do every now and then if your PS3 freezes a lot particularly with the internet browser or In Game XMB. I reccomend backing up all your info (saved games, movies, music, photos, etc.) first JUST IN CASE, but this is PERFECTLY SAFE, so you should be fine if you don't do that. I did this myself just now and it runs way smoother even on the XMB after this.

1. Turn off PS3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
7. Press option number 3 "Restore File System"
8. The PS3 will prompt you to set the video settings, just let it do automatic (you can always fix it back later)
9. The system will most likely give you a message that there is corrupt data and the system will restore.
10. A status bar will appear and go to 100%
11. The PS3 will reset.
12. Now the PS3 is free of corrupt data, allowing it to run freely and freezeless again!

Better explanation of the beeps (because I had trouble with it at first):

On Step 2 it's going to beep a total of three times, when you turn it on (1) then another beep (2) then one more time (3) and then it will shut off.

On Step 3/4 It will be 5 times, if you don't let go of the power button after the double beep it'll simply shut back down again. It'll beep once when it turns on (1), then again (2), then once more (3) and then directly after the third one it'll do a double beep (4/5). Let go after the double beep.

Also, here is what is on the recovery menu just FYI:

Quote:
The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PS3 System. (Simple restart)
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default. (Resets the SETTINGS back to how they were when you first bought it)
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files. (The one listed above, basically like disk defragmenter or disk cleanup)
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PS3. (This is also like a disk defragmenter but don't use this unless you are having major issues)
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch. (This whipes out EVERYTHING and starts fresh)
• System Update: Update the PS3 System (Firmware Update)

Exactly. Jon, I was just thinking that myself.
